Oriental Shorthair & Mandarin Standard (GCCF)

General Type (Oriental Shorthair and Mandarin)

Both breeds follow the same type standard as the Siamese, but have distinctive colors and coat characteristics. The head type, body type and posture are identical to the Siamese.

Eye color

  • Oriental Shorthair: Bright and uniform green.
  • Mandarin: See Siamese.

Not Allowed for Oriental Shorthair

  1. Scattered white hairs, except red and cream.
  2. Poorly colored hair.
  3. Weak chin.
  4. Coat too long, stiff or not close lying.
  5. Irregularities in the tail.
  6. Wrong eye color or spots in the eye of another color.

Tabby and Silver Oriental Shorthairs

For tabbies and silvers, the general descriptions apply. In addition to the general faults, the following are not allowed for tabbies:

  1. Agoeti hairs in the markings.
  2. No obvious markings.
  3. No contrast between markings and ground color.
  4. White chin extending to the collar, except in silvertabbies.
  5. Incorrect markdown color or ground color.
  6. Pale hair base in markings, except in ticked and silvertabbies.
  7. Solid back deck in adult spotted and ticked tabbies.
  8. Visible pattern on body in ticked tabbies.

Nose leather: May be fully colored or pink, edged in the color of the markings.

Mandarin (Half-longhair variety)

  • Coat texture: Fairly long, fine silky coat without woolly undercoat. The coat is smooth to the touch. The tail has a plume-like shape, and the coat at the chin, neck and tail may be wavy. Preferred: No obvious collar. Note: Kittens may have a shorter coat.

Not Allowed for the Mandarin

  1. Very weak chin.
  2. Wrong eye color or spots in the eyes of another color.
  3. Woolly or coarse coat.
  4. Spotted coat on body, except in silver varieties.
  5. No correct tabby markings in tabbies.

Colors of the Oriental Shorthair and Mandarin

Black

  • Coat color: Black.
  • Nose leather and soles of feet: Black.
  • Not allowed: Brown glow in the coat.

Blue

  • Coat color: medium blue.
  • Nose leather: Slate blue.
  • Foot soles: Blue.
  • Not allowed: Brown glow in the coat.

Chocolate

  • Coat color: Warm chocolate brown.
  • Nose leather and soles of feet: Chocolate brown.
  • Not allowed: Dull gray-brown coat color.

Lilac

  • Coat color: Pinkish gray.
  • Nose leather: soft lilac.
  • Foot soles: Old Pink.
  • Not allowed: Brown glow in the coat, or too blue coat color.

Cinnamon

  • Coat color: Warm cinnamon color.
  • Nose leather: Light cinnamon color.
  • Foot soles: salmon pink.

Fawn

  • Coat color: Cool sand color.
  • Nose leather: light sandy pink.
  • Soles of feet: light salmon pink.

Caramel

  • Coat color: Cool bluish brown with a metallic sheen, darker than lilac.
  • Nose leather: dark lilac.
  • Soles of feet: Old pink to dark lilac.

Red

  • Coat color: orange-red.
  • Nose leather and soles of feet: Pink.

Cream

  • Coat color: cool cream.
  • Nose leather and soles of feet: Pink.

Apricot

  • Coat color: light orange (apricot).
  • Nose leather and soles of feet: Pink.

White

  • Coat color: Pure white.
  • Nose leather and soles of feet: Pink.

Tabby colors of the Oriental Shorthair and Mandarin

Black (Brown) Tabby

  • Markings: black.
  • Ground color: Warm brown.
  • Nose leather: Matte red, black edged.
  • Foot soles: Black.

Blue Tabby

  • Markings: medium blue.
  • Ground color: Beige.
  • Nose leather: Pink with slate blue border.
  • Foot soles: Blue.

Chocolate Tabby

  • Markings: warm chocolate brown.
  • Ground color: Warm bronze color.
  • Nose leather and soles of feet: Pink-brown.

Lilac Tabby

  • Markings: pinkish gray.
  • Ground color: Beige.
  • Nose leather and soles of feet: Old pink.

Cinnamon Tabby

  • Markings: Warm cinnamon color.
  • Ground color: Light bronze color.
  • Nose leather: Pink with cinnamon colored border.
  • Foot soles: salmon pink.

Fawn Tabby

  • Markings: cool sand color.
  • Ground color: Very light beige.
  • Nose leather: Pink with sand-colored border.
  • Soles of feet: light salmon pink.

Caramel Tabby

  • Markings: Cool bluish beige hue with metallic sheen.
  • Ground color: Warm beige.
  • Nose leather: Pink with dark lilac border.
  • Soles of feet: Old pink to dark lilac.

Red Tabby

  • Markings: Deep orange-red.
  • Ground color: Light orange-red.
  • Nose leather and soles of feet: Matte red or pink.

Cream Tabby

  • Markings: cool cream.
  • Ground color: Very light cream.
  • Nose leather and soles of feet: Pink.
