Welcome to Sok, the breed club for lovers of Siamese, Balinese, Oriental Shorthairs, Mandarins and Thai cats – collectively known as the “Orientals”. Since 1981, as a part of the parent association Neocat, we have been committed to the protection, welfare and health of these wonderful breeds.

Since

1981

Sok of Neocat is a proud breed club

Founded to represent the interests of Orientals. As part of Neocat, we are in direct contact with other associations and the government to ensure the welfare of our breeds. Our members are automatically also members of Neocat, but we also welcome donors and subscribers. With their support, we can contribute to the care of Orientals in need and actively advocate for the preservation of their health and welfare.

What do we do?

Sok is all about supporting Orientals and their owners. Our main activities are:

Health and Advocacy

We closely monitor breed health and advocate their interests.

Magazine

Three times a year we publish an informative magazine, packed with interesting articles about Orientals.

Stud overview and Kittens

Sok maintains a listing of available studs so that breeders can find the perfect match. We also offer help with kitten mediation and give advice on what to look out for when purchasing a kitten.

Rehoming and Advice

Sometimes Orientals are looking for a new home. We help rehome cats and bring humans and animals together. Our team of experienced experts is on hand to advise on the unique behavior of Orientals, which is often different from the average cat.

SOK of Neocat: The History

Founding

December 12, 1980

On October 25 last, a meeting was held in Amsterdam on the initiative of Mrs. Berntrop and Mrs. Tielens about a breed club to be established for Siamese and Oriental Shorthairs. (By Oriental Shorthairs is meant here: Foreign White, Havana, Lavender, Oriental Type Blue, Red, Creme, Tabby, etc.) Since the Neocat magazine was published irregularly at the time, no announcement could be placed in it so only those who had already signed up for the Siamese club last year were invited. Fortunately, enough members had signed up so that it could be decided to go ahead with the founding. In preparation for further activities, a provisional board was formed consisting of: Mrs. Berntrop, president; Mr. Grond, treasurer; Mrs. Tromp, secretary.
